Forward Deployed Engineer

About 1001

1001 builds AI-powered operational intelligence for the world's most complex, data-heavy environments. We turn fragmented data into a live, unified model of operations and use it to drive better decisions and solve high-stakes problems. Our work sits inside government and large enterprises, in environments defined by critical operations and messy, real-world data.

Our engagements start with forward-deployed teams embedded in the customer environment. They work on real data, build quickly, and iterate until the system proves itself, then scale it across the organization.

The company is backed by Lux Capital, General Catalyst, civ, Hanabi, Sanabil, and 9Yards, with angels including Chris Re, Amjad Masad, Karim Atiyeh, Kareem Amin, and Russell Kaplan.

Working at 1001

We take on high-stakes problems in environments where mistakes carry real consequences. That demands an uncompromising bar, real speed, and systems that hold up under live operations. The people who thrive set that bar for themselves and keep raising it. They own outcomes end to end, bring rigor to everything, and lift everyone around them.

About the role

Forward Deployed Engineers are where 1001 meets the real world. You'll sit inside customer operations, learn how decisions actually get made, and build software that turns fragmented data into intelligence people can trust. The work splits two ways: for products we've already built, you run the deployment at new enterprise and government customers end-to-end; for problems we haven't solved yet, you embed on-site, learn the domain, and figure out what to build.

This is not a role for isolated demos. You'll work with live data, unclear requirements, legacy systems, and users whose decisions carry real consequences. The job is to move from ambiguity to shipped software: understand the workflow, find the leverage point, build quickly with the customer in the room, and iterate until the system proves itself in the field.

The instinct that matters most is telling a one-off customer ask apart from a pattern worth building into the platform, so each deployment makes the next one faster. The role runs at two levels, senior and mid, both with significant time on customer sites in the Gulf and beyond.

What you'll work on

  • Carry deployments end-to-end, from kickoff through go-live, accountable for the outcome.
  • Deploy existing products at new enterprise customers, adapting them to each environment.
  • Embed on-site for new use cases, learn the customer's operations, and decide what 1001 should build.
  • Talk directly with clients, understand their domain, and translate it into engineering work.
  • Decide what stays a one-off and what becomes reusable product.
  • Write crisp specs for the features that go into the platform.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years as a full-stack engineer, eager to spend significant time on customer sites.
  • Strong full-stack capability with TypeScript and React, plus Python or Node, and ships working software with the customer in the room.
  • Able to run a deployment of an existing product at a new customer end-to-end.
  • High customer empathy, equally at home in a boardroom and a terminal.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and frequent travel to customer sites in the Gulf and beyond.
